Lockout videos: Jewel performs at the 2003 NBA Finals
The NBA has played host to some great musical performances over the years, from Marvin Gaye's classic national anthem at the 1983 All-Star game to lesser lights like this past ASG's Rihanna-based halftime show. They're pretty enjoyable!
Sometimes, though, the NBA has flatly awful ideas for in-game entertainment. Witness, for instance, this performance by noted Alaskan car-resident Jewel Kilcher during halftime of Game 3 of the 2003 NBA Finals between the Spurs and Nets. In case you forget, in '03 Jewel's record label decided her brand of poppy folk music needed a kick in the butt. So they turned her into a poor imitation of a Britney Spearsish video star, although it was bad enough that she was more like a pre-"Newlyweds" Jessica Simpson knockoff.
What I'm telling you, I guess, is that it's not really worth watching this video. But it is definitely a lost moment in NBA history, and for that we can at least acknowledge it existence.
